A comical line in the digital animation film “The Lorax” quips that if you put something in a plastic bottle, people will buy it. Although the joke is meant as a mockery of selling bottled air, many beverage categories have emerged in bottles in the last couple of years.
Corona, Calif.-based Monster Energy Co. launched the Monster Energy Ultimate Intern Search to fill two newly created intern positions. The Monster Energy Ultimate Intern Search will award two individuals a compensation package worth more than $15,000 and the opportunity to work directly with athletes, music artists, celebrities and the Monster Energy staff at major national sports and entertainment events across America, including X-Games 18, the Vans Warped Tour 2012, and the Street League DC Pro Tour fueled by Monster Energy, during the summer.
As beverage-makers continue to develop products that do more than satisfy consumers’ thirst, the number of beverages that carry a functional claim continues to increase. According to “Functional and Natural Ready-to-Drink Beverages in the U.S.,” a report by Rockville, Md.-based market research publisher Packaged Facts, sales of energy drinks, ready-to-drink (RTD) teas and sports drinks have helped the functional and natural RTD beverage market grow to $23 billion.
More than 22,300 attendees visited the National Association of Convenience Stores (NACS) Show in Chicago from Oct. 1-4. This year’s event featured a record number of international attendees from 58 countries, the association said. The NACS Show featured a 387,000-plus net square foot exposition floor with 1,333 exhibiting companies, including 324 companies new to the show.
