Spirits-makers will collaborate to develop custom bourbon, whiskey

The Bardstown Bourbon Co. (BBCo), Bardstown, Ky., announced that Grain & Barrel Spirits, the maker of pre-prohibition brand Chicken Cock Whiskey, has joined BBCo’s Collaborative Distilling Program. Grain & Barrel will work with BBCo to produce custom bourbon and whiskey for the Chicken Cock brand, which dates back to 1856. BBCo and Grain & Barrel concluded their first distillation of 616 barrels at the end of August.
For mature beverage categories, producing year-over-year growth can be a challenge. For the U.S. wine and spirits markets, sales growth has allowed these categories to increase not only its own yearly comparisons, but also gain market share from other beverage alcohol categories.
Achieving success in a crowded market is a task that goes beyond producing a quality product, and is one that Stillhouse Spirits Co., Los Angeles, has been able to achieve.
When you look at the U.S. spirits market, consumers continue to turn to the whiskey/bourbon segment in large numbers. It stands to reason that the readers of Beverage Industry also might be taken with the spirit segment.
For the U.S. spirits market, volume growth has allowed the category to increase not only its own yearly comparisons, but also gain market share from other beverage alcohol categories.
Acquisitions support growth of super-premium bourbon whiskeys

New York-based Castle Brands Inc. has purchased, or agreed to purchase, an additional $4.2 million of aging and new-fill bourbon. These additional purchases bring Castle Brands total purchases of aging and new-fill bourbon to $9.6 million for the current fiscal year.

Makers of Not Your Father’s Root Beer expand into spirits

Monroe, Wis.-based Small Town Craft Spirits announced the launch of Not Your Father’s Bourbon, the first in a new line of spirits from the craft spirits company. The company is putting a spin on the centuries-old spirit for a new generation of whiskey drinkers and cocktail connoisseurs, it says.
