Ferrand Cognac introduced new packaging for core expressions 1840 Original Formula, Ambré and Double Cask, that celebrates the brand’s heritage and craftsmanship. This is a global refresh and has begun its U.S. roll out.
Ferrand Cognac is the founding brand of Maison Ferrand, established in 1989 by owner and Master Blender Alexandre Gabriel. Ten generations of the Ferrand family tended grapevines, made wine and distilled cognac at their family manor in Segonzac, in the heart of the Grande Champagne, premier cru de Cognac.
The manor is now called Mademoiselle Manor in tribute to the last Ferrand descendant to live there. Mademoiselle Henriette was the guardian of the family history and entrusted the manor and all its belongings to Alexandre Gabriel because she saw in him the same creative spirit and boldness of her grandfather, Elie Ferrand VIII, a pioneer in cognac-making. As an inveterate history buff, Alexandre has dedicated more than 30 years to exploring and preserving the savoir-faire of the venerable growers, distillers and blenders of France’s cognac appellation.
From grape to glass, the team of winegrowers, distillers and blenders at Ferrand Cognac oversee each step of production, with the utmost technical expertise and innovation as their driving force. Their passion and approach are reflected in the new packaging design with the new bottle and label visually honoring tradition while embracing modernity, the company says. This refresh is external only, while the quality of the cognac remains the same.
The following are notable packaging features:
• A wooden stopper, reminiscent of a barrel, symbolizes the crucial role of the aging process in crafting Ferrand Cognac, where in the aging cellars, the transformation from eau-de-vie to fine cognac begins.
• The hammered glass bottle is inspired by the traditional hand-hammered copper pot stills of the 19th century.
• Label designs that pay homage to the past, highlighting Ferrand’s commitment to reviving forgotten techniques and embracing tradition while continuously innovating with modernity and experimentation.
Drawing inspiration from 19th-century architectural style, the 1840 Original Formula label depicts two small angels enjoying a cocktail in a coupe, symbolizing the cocktail culture of that era and the period in which Elie Ferrand VIII lived.
On the Ambré label, a grape leaf symbolizes Ferrand as winegrowers and their dedication to the cultivation of exceptional grapes. Within the leaf there are two barrels, highlighting the importance of aging and blending.
The two casks on the Double Cask Réserve label nod to Ferrand’s historic double maturation techniques, and that the current team has reintroduced, maturing today’s liquid in barrels that had previously contained something other than cognac. The label design is a nod to Elie Ferrand VIII, featuring his portrait and the vibrant wallpaper seen on the walls of his office at Mademoiselle Manor. The intermingling of a grapevine and the tree of life represents the Ferrand family roots and the brand’s deep connection to the heart of Cognac.
