White Plains, N.Y.-based Heineken USA, which acquired import rights to the Strongbow Hard Cider brand in January 2013, is phasing out the original Strongbow Hard Cider recipe in place of the new Strongbow Gold Apple Hard Cider and Strongbow Honey & Apple Hard Cider. In a blind taste test conducted last year by Rogil Research, both men and women noted that they strongly preferred the new crisp, refreshing flavor profile of Strongbow Gold Apple, the company says.
In time for spring, Heineken USA introduced an 8.5-ounce slim can format. Twelve-packs of these new slim cans began rolling out at retail outlets across the country this month.
As the economy stabilizes, consumers are trading up for the premium beer offerings available through the imported beers segment, says Edward Hyseh, U.S. research analyst for Euromonitor International, Chicago.

White Plains, N.Y.-based Heineken USA, a subsidiary of Heineken International BV, announced this year’s “Celebrate Together” holiday program scheduled to hit retail outlets beginning Nov. 1. At the center of the program, limited-edition bottle labels and promotional packaging on Heineken Lager 12-packs will be available to enhance the holiday experience and drive repeat visits to retail outlets throughout November and December, the company says.
