Old Forester announced the return of Old Forester 1924 and Old Forester 1910 Extra Old.
Old Forester 1924 will return for a second year with its same unique mash bill of 79% corn, 11% rye and 10% malted barley rather than the traditional Old Forester recipe of 72% corn, 18% rye and 10% malted barley. One of five expressions in Old Forester’s vaunted Whiskey Row Series, 1924 is bottled at 100-proof, touting a 10-year age statement, available for $119.99 a bottle.
“With a new mash bill and 10-year age statement, 1924 features a unique taste unlike any other Old Forester expression, but fits perfectly within our storytelling Whiskey Row series,” said Master Taster Melissa Rift, in a statement. “After such a quick sell-out last year, this re-release gives more whiskey drinkers the chance to taste — and love — this dynamic expression.”
Old Forester 1910 Extra Old will return after an almost three-year hiatus, the company notes. Part of Old Forester’s 117 Series, 1910 Extra Old is aged in a secondary barrel for an additional 18 months, resulting in a rich flavor profile with pronounced caramel notes, it says.
“Our 117 Series is focused on innovation and gives us a chance to blend our longstanding values with a contemporary vision,” Rift added. “This expression showcases the exceptional quality that can come from this experimentation. Whisky lovers will be able to taste the history captured in this bottle.”
Old Forester 1910 is a coveted expression commemorating the Oct. 22, 1910 distillery fire at 117 Main Street, according to the company. A batch of mature whisky, ready to be bottled, was then re-barreled in new barrels so it could be removed due to the fire damage. What emerged from the rebarreling was a full-bodied whisky, remarkable enough to become an entirely new expression ― Old Fine Whisky, the company says. For Extra Old, the brand left the 1910 whiskey aging in a secondary barrel and extracted a more heavily charred influence, it notes.
1910 Extra Old is bottled at 93-proof, retailing at $64.99 a bottle.
