Chattanooga Whiskey announced the newest release in its award-winning Experimental Single Batch Series: Batch 040: Bourbon Barreled Citracello.

Just in time for the citrus harvest, this multi-fruit follow-up to Bourbon Barreled Limoncello captures the vibrant yet rich flavors of freshly squeezed grapefruit in liqueur form, the company says.

“Every Experimental Single Batch is an opportunity for our distillers to say something new. And while we never really repeat the same idea twice, we do love to reinvent and build on old concepts — which is the case here,” said Grant McCracken, founding distiller at Chattanooga Whiskey, in a statement. “Although we all loved our Bourbon Barreled Limoncello, this concept explores a completely different side of citrus infusions.”

Made with the distillery’s signature “Barrel 91” mash bill — and more than 125 pounds of grapefruit peel, orange peel, blood orange peel and hibiscus — the fruity and floral white whiskey served as the ideal base for a lengthy three-week infusion, the company notes. Crafted from only real ingredients, this elegant liqueur showcases the multi-dimensional qualities of an under-appreciated style, it says.

“One of the main reasons we believe our liqueurs are so popular is that each one utilizes 100% real whiskey and real ingredients,” McCracken added. “This approach gives our distillers the ability to adjust and balance each ingredient’s infusion time, order and length — allowing for nearly complete control over the liqueur’s final flavor profile.”

Made from a batch of only five barrels, Batch 040 was finished for more than three months in single-use Tennessee High Malt barrels, which imparted additional layers of sweet vanilla-like complexity to the finished liqueur, the company notes. Bottled at 81 proof, the final liqueur balances the impact of each citrus type, the barrel finishing process, and the tangy, floral qualities of dried hibiscus, it says.

Batch 040: Bourbon Barreled Citracello is available at the Chattanooga Whiskey Experimental Distillery at $44.99 for a 750-ml bottle, and available online for shipping to select states on Seelbachs.com.
