Archer Daniels Midland Co. (ADM) offers its Novatol naturally sourced vitamin E, which provides a plant-based alternative for customers looking to comply with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration’s (FDA) new labeling regulations, the company says. Alpha-tocopherol, which the U.S. FDA’s new rule regarding Nutrition Facts defines as vitamin E, is an essential nutrient that is vital to human health but cannot be produced by the body itself. It is under-consumed by 90 percent of Americans, according to the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey, so it is a popular additive in many food products seeking to add nutritional value, the company says. This new rule regarding Nutrition Facts labeling requires manufacturers using synthetically produced vitamin E to incorporate twice as much of the ingredient to meet the same amount of vitamin E compared with using naturally sourced vitamin E, it adds. ADM’s Novatol vitamin E is sourced from vegetable oils, making it an ideal solution for formulators looking to incorporate naturally sourced vitamin E into their food innovations and dietary supplements, it says.
