After more than 150 years of family feuding, the direct descendants of the Hatfield and McCoy families agreed to team up to make an American whiskey. To bring the whiskey to life, the families partnered with distiller Local Choice Spirits, based in Charleston, S.C. The resulting whiskey is made from corn, barley, malt, special strains of yeast, natural flavors and water. It is then aged in oak, filtered and purified to create a 40 percent alcohol by volume spirit with notes of black pepper, smoke, dried apricot, custard, black walnut, vanilla, caramel and butter, the company says. A 750-ml bottle has a suggested retail price of $38.99.
