Mid-year measurement shows craft beer industry growth

The craft brewing industry has continued its strong growth in the first half of 2015, according to new mid-year data released by the Boulder, Colo.-based Brewers Association, the not-for-profit trade association dedicated to small, independent American craft brewers. American craft beer production volume increased 16 percent during the first half of the year, it says.
The Brewers Association, Boulder, Colo., released its annual list of the Top 50 craft and overall brewing companies in the United States based on beer sales volume. Of the top 50 overall brewing companies, 42 were craft brewing companies.

Manufacturers and suppliers to the craft brewing industry are heading to Portland, Ore., for the 32nd Craft Brewers Conference & BrewExpo America (CBC). Taking place April 14-17 at the Oregon Convention Center, the annual event is hosted by the Brewers Association, Boulder, Colo., and will welcome an estimated 11,000 attendees.

Craft beer rose 18 percent in volume sales, representing a total of 15.6 million barrels, and increased 20 percent in retail dollar value, making the segment the primary growth driver in the beer industry, according to the BA.

According to a new analysis by the Brewers Association (BA), small and independent American craft brewers contributed $33.9 billion to the U.S. economy in 2012. This figure is derived from the total impact of beer brewed by craft brewers as it moves through the three-tier system, as well as all non-beer products that brewpub restaurants sell.
