Accelerator program furthers investments to entrepreneurs from underrepresented communities

Since launching its Pre-Accelerator Programme in July 2021, Distill Ventures (DV), an independent drinks accelerator devoted to building and scaling the drinks brands of the future, has invested its initial goal of $5 million to entrepreneurs from underrepresented communities. Now, DV is announcing its aim to invest an additional $5 million in global funding committed by Diageo, DV’s sole funding partner, during the next year.
New York-based Diageo North America and The Vita Coco Co., New York, announced their collaboration to launch a line of premium canned cocktails. Called Vita Coco Spiked with Captain Morgan, the spirits-based line will be available in three offerings – Piña Colada, Strawberry Daiquiri and Lime Mojito– all starting with a balanced blend of Captain Morgan Caribbean white rum and Vita Coco’s refreshing coconut water.
Diageo plc, London, announced it has acquired 21Seeds, a rapidly growing flavored tequila infused with the juice of real fruits. The brand is available in three varieties: Valencia Orange, Grapefruit Hibiscus and Cucumber Jalapeño.

To support New York-based Diageo North America’s growth strategy in the ready-to-drink (RTD) category, the company announced plans to expand its manufacturing footprint and install two can lines at a new facility in Plainfield, Ill. With an investment of approximately $80 million, the site will have the capacity to produce more than 25 million cases of RTDs a year, including Smirnoff seltzers and the newly launched spirits-based RTD cocktails from Crown Royal and Ketel One Botanicals.
