In her song “Christmas Party,” pop singer Meghan Trainor describes her vision for a holiday party. “Miss it, you’ll be sorry / We’ll eat cookies and candy / Eggnog with a brandy / At my Christmas party,” she sings.
Whether enjoyed on its own or mixed with an alcoholic spirit as described Trainor’s song, eggnog has long been associated with the holidays due to its spices and flavors. The beverage even has its own day, National Eggnog Day, on Dec. 24.
Ahead of National Eggnog Day, here are a few eggnog beverages to get in the spirit:
- BuzzBallz: For the holidays, BuzzBallz offers an Eggnog flavor in its spirits-based Cocktails and wine-based Chillers varieties. The tasting notes for both the Eggnog Cocktails and Eggnog Chillers are smooth, vanilla and cinnamon. “Sip the season with our creamy, subtly spiced take on a classic holiday cocktail,” the company says on its website. “The robust flavors of vanilla custard and nutmeg combine for a creamy, tastefully sweet dessert cocktail.” The alcohol-by-volume (ABV) for both eggnog varieties comes in at 15%.
- Califia Farms: Premium plant-based beverage brand Califia Farms unveiled its seasonal portfolio in the fall. This lineup included holiday-inspired products, including the Holiday Nog. It’s a creamy almond milk with the addition of real cinnamon and a dash of nutmeg, the company says, for a festive, dairy-free, egg-free beverage containing just 50 calories in each serving. “Each year, we look forward to delivering exciting, seasonal and fun flavors that delight consumers,” said Suzanne Ginestro, chief marketing officer of Califia Farms, in a statement. “These product showcase our commitment to making a variety of plant-based options that are delicious and better-for-you (BFY).”
- MALK Organics: Austin, Texas-based MALK Organics, a plant-based milk company, brought back its limited-edition Holiday Nog for the season. Containing clean, simple ingredients, the Holiday Nog is free of gums, oils and fillers — without sacrificing the nostalgic taste of classic eggnog. It is 100% organic and vegan, made with filtered water, organic almonds, organic maple syrup, organic nutmeg extract and Himalayan pink salt. It contains just 60 calories in each serving.
- Organic Valley: The farmer-owned organic cooperative offers Organic Valley Reduced Fat Eggnog, made with organic milk and blended with organic egg yolks, sugar, nutmeg and natural flavor. It was recognized as a winner of the 2024 Product of the Year USA Awards. “We worked hard with our co-op of small, organic family farmers to ensure that our Organic Valley Reduced Fat Eggnog has a made-from-scratch recipe using our organic milk and eggs that is just as creamy and delicious as our prior full fat version,” said Daryl Spors, Organic Valley vice president of product development, in a statement at the time of the award. The product is produced without antibiotics, synthetic hormones, toxic pesticides or GMOs, the company notes. It describes the reduced fat eggnog as “rich, creamy and deliciously decadent.”
- Shamrock Farms: Family-owned, Phoenix-based Shamrock Farms has an entire portfolio of eggnogs, all only available during the holidays. Consumers can choose from Traditional Eggnog, Light Eggnog, Pumpkin Spice Eggnog and Vanilla Spice Eggnog. “We start with a recipe perfected over three generations, then add a custom blend of spices to pure, great-tasting cream and milk from our family of local farms,” the company says on its website. “The result is a rich, creamy eggnog that’s sure to bring the holiday cheer no matter how you serve it.”
- Skrewball Whiskey: Skrewball Peanut Butter Whiskey is mixed with dairy cream and other flavors, with notes of cinnamon and vanilla, for the creation of Skrewball Peanut Butter Whiskey Eggnog. “We’re in the business of bringing people together through celebration and shared moments, and what better way to foster connection and get into the holiday spirit than with the No. 1 holiday cocktail?” said Skrewball Whiskey Co-Founders, Steven and Brittany Yeng, in a statement last year. The eggnog whiskey comes in at 14.75% alcohol-by-volume (ABV) and is described by the company as “unlike anything you’ve ever tasted before.”
