Cakebread Cellars released Napa Valley Cabernet Franc, an oft-blended Bordeaux varietal known for its distinctive aromatics, smooth mouthfeel and good acidity, it says. With vivid aromas of violets, boysenberry and blackberry accented with the suggestion of dried herbs, this wine pairs with a wide variety of foods, it adds. On the palate, concentrated flavors of dark cherry and fresh boysenberry are supported by bright acidity and firm tannins. Boysenberry notes and a hint of minerality carry over the finish to complete this elegant wine. Grapes for this wine were harvested from Suscol Springs Vineyard in the cooler southeastern region, with perfect conditions for developing Cabernet Franc of bright aromatics, vibrant flavors and firm structure. To create this vintage, Cabernet Franc grapes were hand-harvested at night for optimum balance between sugar and acidity. French-oak barrel aging integrated the intensity of the fruit to guarantee subtlety and balance without allowing the oak to overpower the structure, natural minerality, peppery characteristics and freshness of this wine. A 750-ml has a suggested retail price of $60.
