At Pack Expo Connect, Fortress Technology Inc. unveiled new equipment that shrinks beverage inspection footprints and explained why smaller-footprint beverage inspection systems are rapidly becoming the new normal. Noting that factory space is at a premium with every cubic foot needing to be maximized, a combined checkweighing and metal detection system mounted on the same conveyor provides a smaller footprint than stand-alone units would occupy, the company says. While a combination metal detector/checkweigher is not a new concept, the Raptor Combi, at 1.7 meters in overall length, is half the size of comparable models on the market. Offered under the Raptor marque, the Raptor Combi is available as a stand-alone checkweigher or combination system utilizing Fortress Stealth or Interceptor metal detector models. It delivers flexibility, hygienic design and safety, and user-friendly operation while shortening lead-time for handling products as many as 15 inches (500mm) in size and as much as 17 pounds in weight. The company also can custom manufacture smaller footprint systems for inspecting smaller products and says its goal is to help beverage plants find that sweet spot, where footprint, reliability and cost of ownership can all be balanced.
