Seattle-based Jones Soda Co. released a new limited-edition premium soda flavor: Peanut Butter and Jelly (PB&J).

Offering a Jones Soda spin on the classic sandwich timed for the back-to-school season, Jones’ PB&J Soda is formulated as a fun flavor that consumers would be excited to drink, the company says. To appeal to consumers who cannot eat peanut butter because of peanut allergies, the soda offers the taste of a peanut butter and grape jelly sandwich without any actual peanuts or ingredients that have come into contact with peanut materials, it says.

“Jones Soda is known for our limited-edition, fun flavors,” said Jennifer Cue, chief executive officer of Jones Soda, in a statement. “So it was only natural that we put a Jones Soda spin on a classic like PB&J. The flavor is amazing that both kids and adults will enjoy.”

The U.S. rollout for the limited-edition flavor is scheduled for late August at Harmons, Hastings and Associated Food Stores and for September at Cost Plus World Market stores. It currently is available in Toronto at Rabba Fine Foods locations.

Jones PB&J Soda also will be available at independent accounts throughout North America that currently carry Jones Soda and on the Jones Soda website. The suggested retail price for a bottle is between $1.49 and $1.98, while supplies last.

Along with the release of Jones PB&J Soda, the brand plans to give away weekly back- to-school prize packs from Aug. 19 through Sept. 30 as well as a grand prize of a GoPro camera. Fans can enter to win prizes on www.jonessoda.com and through the brand’s social media channels by using the hashtag #JonesPBJ.
