Dr Pepper, a brand of Plano, Texas-based Dr Pepper Snapple Group, is giving away more than $1 million in tuition money this year to fans as part of its annual Dr Pepper Tuition Giveaway.
Fans can submit a 60-second video on the brand’s website explaining why they deserve tuition money. The Dr Pepper Tuition Giveaway judges the videos based on specific criteria, such as the inclusion of Dr Pepper, a description of how the tuition money and a college education will help the student make an impact on the world, and overall presentation. Fans 18 to 24 years old can upload their videos by Nov. 15 for a chance to compete for $100,000 during a select college football game, and consumers 18 years of age and older can submit their videos until Dec. 31 for a chance to win a $2,500 tuition prize.
"Dr Pepper is committed to helping students achieve success both on and off the field," said Leslie Vesper, director of brand marketing for Dr Pepper, in a statement. "Through the Dr Pepper Tuition Giveaway, we’ve helped to change the lives of students across the country — ensuring that their studies and future remain their number one priority, not how to pay their tuition — and we’re proud to continue this tradition.”
Two contestants will compete for $100,000 in tuition before the Cowboys Classic during Labor Day Weekend in Arlington, Texas, and, just like last year, eight total contestants, two at a time, will compete for $100,000 during halftime of the Dr Pepper ACC Championship, the Big Ten Championship, the Pac-12 Championship and the SEC Championship.
Selected contest finalists will throw footballs from the five-yard line into a two-foot hole in an oversized Dr Pepper can replica. The contestant at each game who successfully completes the most throws in 30 seconds will win $100,000 in tuition, with the runner-up taking home a $23,000 tuition prize. Three additional contestants invited to each game who do not advance past a preliminary throw will receive $2,500 each.
Fans also can win tuition money all season long through Dr Pepper Tuition Giveaway retail promotions.
Additionally, Dr Pepper is celebrating past winners of its Tuition Giveaway throughout the college football season. Their faces and stories will appear on limited-edition cans of Dr Pepper, Diet Dr Pepper, Dr Pepper Cherry and Diet Dr Pepper Cherry, as well as online, in retail displays and in a national television commercial.
