FORD COMMERCIAL TRUCKS
Ford Motor Co. offers everything from E-Series cargo vans and wagons to Super Duty F-Series trucks and chassis cabs.
The new 2008 E-Series commercial van got a major makeover, with a number of chassis enhancements, including a series of upgrades to the braking, suspension and steering systems that have improved ride and handling, braking performance and load-carrying capability.
These improvements also have resulted in an increase in the maximum gross vehicle weight rating (gvwr) from 14,050 to 14,500 pounds.
The 2008 E-350 comes with two new options: a 12,500-pound gvwr, and an additional E-350 SRW Cutaway model with an optional mid-ship fuel tank to allow for more usable rear gross vehicle weight rating.
Transmission choices for the E-Series include a four-speed automatic mated to the 4.6-liter and 5.4-liter engines in vans and wagons. On cutaways, the 5.4-liter and 6.8-liter engines come with a five-speed TorqShift automatic.
Ford’s F-350, F-450 and F-500 Super Duties also have been upgraded for 2008 with new features and components. All are powered by a 350-hp, 650 pound-feet torque, 6.4-liter Power Stroke, V-8 turbocharged diesel engine.
Available as an option are two gasoline-powered engines: a 300-hp, 365 pound-feet torque, 5.4-liter V-8; and a 362-hp, 467 pound-feet torque, 6.8-liter V-8.
The F-650, with its bumper-to-back-of-cab (BBC) dimension of 113 inches is available in gross vehicle weight ratings ranging from 20,160 to 29,000 pounds. Engine choices are the Caterpillar C7 diesel in 190- to 300-hp ratings and 200- to 325-hp Cummins ISB diesels.

The Caterpillar C7 diesel selections start with 210 hp and go up to 300. Both models feature clean cab-to-axle dimensions for easy, more cost efficient body and equipment mounting.
Ford’s LCF (low cab forward) model is especially well-suited to urban areas because of its tight turning radius. Its tilt-cab design allows ease of powertrain servicing. It has a 73-inch BBC and comes in four gross vehicle weight ratings from 15,000 to 19,500 pounds.
The LCF comes standard with a Power Stroke 4.5-liter V-6 200-hp 440 pound-feet torque turbocharged diesel engine coupled to a TorqShift five-speed automatic transmission. This is the only available powertrain.
