Jones Soda Co., Seattle, powered its headquarters with bicycle-generated energy for nine hours on Earth Day. The company partnered with local companies and organizations to convert energy generated by bicycle-pedaling participants into usable electricity for a limited number of computers, phones and other electrical equipment.
Participants in the event, led by Jones’ Chief Executive Officer Bill Meissner, received free soda and memorabilia at the event, which builds on Jones Soda’s “Keeping it Real” sustainability campaign to manage energy consumption, reduce waste, recycle more and institute Fair Trade certified practices.
“When it comes to the environment, Jones Soda does what it can to conserve everyday, from using recycled glass to our environmentally friendly distribution practices,” Meissner said, in a statement. “Most of the world may call it being sustainable, but we call it ‘Keeping it Real.’”
