Paula Boggs, executive vice president, general counsel and secretary of Starbucks Coffee Co., Seattle, was named to the newly formed White House Council for Community Solutions by President Barack Obama.
The council will provide advice to the President about solving specific community needs. It has been tasked with three key functions, which are as follows: enlisting leaders in the nonprofit, private and philanthropic sectors to make progress on key policy goals; providing strategic input and recommendations to help the federal government promote greater innovation and cross-sector collaboration; and honoring and highlighting those making a significant impact in their own communities.
In addition to Boggs, the White House Council for Community Solutions will be composed of leaders from nonprofits, corporations and foundations that are committed to social innovation and civic engagement.
“Investing in the communities where we do business is core to Starbucks’ mission,” said Howard Schultz, chairman, president and chief executive officer of Starbucks, in a statement. “Healthy, thriving neighborhoods are vital to our quality of life, and to the sustainment of future generations. We congratulate [Boggs] on her appointment and welcome the opportunity to work with President Obama and all those named to the Council to develop solutions that will benefit local communities.”
