The Sunny Delight Beverages Co., Cincinnati, released its 2009 Sustainability
Report that outlines its environmental goals using Global Reporting Initiative
third generation guidelines.
By 2011, the company plans to reduce per-unit non-product
related water usage by 25 percent, reduce per-unit energy usage by 25 percent
and reduce per-unit carbon footprint by 25 percent versus 2007 levels. In the
report, the company also outlined a goal of sending zero waste to landfills by
2013.
"We have made tremendous progress by further reducing
the plastic in our bottles, the calories in our products, the water and energy
used by our plants, and the fuel needed to produce and transport our products,”
said Billy Cyr, Sunny Delight’s president and
chief executive officer, in a statement. “These results have simultaneously
strengthened our company and reduced the impact we have on the
environment."
Sunny Delight also highlighted goals to improve the nutritional
value of its product portfolio, reduce packaging materials and improve shipping
efficiency to reduce its carbon footprint.
