New ranges

Quincy Compressor expanded its QGS line of rotary screw air compressors that now range from 5 horsepower through 30 horsepower. The new additions of 20 horsepower, 25 horsepower and 30 horsepower are available with integrated dryer and tank-mount options. All QGS compressors come standard with Quincy’s 8,000 hour synthetic fluid and a 5-year warranty on all major components. Configured for 125 psi operation and 230/3/60 electrics, the QGS compressor features easy maintenance to help reduce downtime, the company says.

Rotary labeler

Sidel Group launched the Rollsleeve machine, a rotary labeler that creates and applies plastic shrink sleeves from a machine direction orientation label roll onto glass, plastic and metal containers. Rollsleeve combines the simplicity of its consolidated roll-fed group, resulting in highly customized container labeling and label film cost reduction, the company says. Companies also can transition from sleeving to hot glue roll-fed applications. It takes about 10 minutes for the Rollsleeve to become a roll-fed machine using the same labeling unit, the company says.

Forklift complements

Crown Equipment Corp. announced the launch of three products, the Crown RM 6000 reach truck, the Crown QuickPick Remote Advance System and the CrownInfoLink 3.0 fleet management system. The Crown RM 6000 will be the industry’s first monolift reach truck, the company says. It will reach 505 inches and lift loads up to 1,000 pounds heavier than many conventional reach trucks, the company says. The Crown QuickPick Remote Advance System features a wireless glove that allows operators to remotely control the forklift. Also, the new version of InfoLink will bring managers and operators heightened access to actionable information from the forklift as well as enhanced dashboard functionality for at-a-glance fleet and individual truck performance, the company says.

Shrink labeling

G.C. Evans Sales & Manufacturing introduced its Sleeve Seal. The Sleeve Seal is a sleeving integration that can accommodate clear film supply, shrink labels and the fastest labelers in the industry, the company says. Intelligrated announced its latest in robotic controls, the Alvey PLC-controlled robotic palletizer. Using a programmable logic controller (PLC) platform, this innovation is an alternative to the traditional proprietary robot controller and improves line integration, response time and overall productivity while reducing operator and maintenance training, the company says. The PLC-based control system enables customers to deploy Alvey robotic palletizing solutions while maintaining a standard control platform, streamlining complex control communication, reducing critical response time and minimizing changeover delays, the company says.

Smaller capacity sleeves

During Emballage 2010, Karlville exhibited Sleeve Pro 150, a sleeve application machine ideal for small to medium size companies, and the Tornado Tunnel, a hot air solution for the application of shrink sleeves. SleevePro 150 is capable of applying up to 150 sleeves a minute and is a solution for production lines that require flexibility, because the change of format can be achieved in 15 minutes, the company says. Tornado Tunnel is an integrated electric shrinking system ideal for use on steam sensitive products. The Tunnel has the capability to create a shrink appearance similar to steam tunnels on any container shape, the company says. This tunnel generates a compact solution for application when high-quality shrinking is required, the company says.

New software features

Rockwell Automation announced the availability of its new Allen-Bradley PanelView Plus 6 human-machine interface and upgraded versions of its FactoryTalk View and FactoryTalk ViewPoint applications. These new visualization and information products are designed to enhance run-time performance and operator experience while reducing deployment time and costs, the company says. The PanelView Plus 6 terminal includes more memory with faster refresh rates and more on-device storage. FactoryTalk View ME 6.0 software provides the PanelView Plus 6 with new time-saving design enhancements, the company says. FactoryTalk View Site Edition (SE) 6.0 software also includes an upgraded design environment through FactoryTalk View Studio to help customers build applications more quickly. FactoryTalk ViewPoint 1.2 software provides access to real-time operations data by logging onto an Internet browser.

Motorola Solutions, a business of Motorola Inc., announced its newest device management solution, Mobility Services Platform 3 (MSP3) Control Edition. Providing enterprise customers with control over mobile and peripheral devices, MSP3 Control Edition centralizes device management capabilities to help maximize uptime, increase mobile worker productivity and reduce IT expenditures, the company says. MSP3 Control Edition supports Motorola and non-Motorola mobile devices, as well as peripherals such as printers, debit and credit card readers and biometric fingerprint readers for complete mobility management.

Skrinkwrapper advancements

Polypack Inc. introduced its All-In-One machines, which are robotic pick and place shrink bundles with built-in case-packers. All-In-One groups products and places them onto a bucket conveyor for shrink and has quick-change gripper assemblies and adaptability to handle many types and sizes of products, the company says. A discharge gantry automatically places the bundles into an erected tray or case.

Comark Corp. introduced the 42-inch Panel PC to its Panel Magic product line. Integrating high-resolution displays with high-performance computing, the 42-inch panel has full 1080-pixel resolution and is the largest in the Panel Magic series, which today ranges from 12- to 42-inches, the company says. Optional Pentium M, Atom and Core 2 Duo integrated processors are available. Other Panel Magic PC options include resistive touch screens, PCI expansion capability and custom bezel colors. When installed in a panel or enclosure, the Panel Magic PC series meets a NEMA 4X rating. Panel Magic PC is compatible with many brands of automation and human-machine interface software, including Invensys Process Systems, Parsec Automation, Wonderware and Rockwell Automation, the company says. Thin client configurations are available, enabled with ACP ThinManager.

Suggestive selling technology

Lift Retail Marketing Technology announced the launch of its Lift Station platform, an integrated suggestive point-of-sale technology for convenience stores. The Lift Station is connected to the point-of-sale cash register system. When an item is scanned the platform identifies the best up-sell offer based on the promotional calendar, day-part, week-part, profitability and natural purchase affinity, the company says. Lift then displays a digital ad on a shopper-facing LCD flat screen and a selling script on a cashier-facing touch screen. The Lift Station tracks and reports key metrics on cashier performances and offer effectiveness.

Clean lines

Conroll Corp. introduced a new series of 24-volt DC-powered wash-down roller conveyors for transport and for zero-pressure accumulation. Features of the system are the Polyvee drive and idler elements, which are enclosed and sealed within the conveyor rails, operating with precision ground ball bearings, the company says. There are no exposed belts and grooved conveyor rollers are not required. Powered by enclosed IP66-rated 24 VDC brushless motorized drive rollers, all conveyor rollers are sealed and employ Forsheda-type rubber V-seals, which are fitted between the rollers and side rails to prevent entry of liquids and contaminants, the company says.

Loading flexibility

Serco designed its LoadWarrior Level-Lift for warehouses with limited loading dock space. The Level-Lift offers efficiency of a hydraulic dock leveler and the flexibility of scissors lift equipment, the company says. Design features include Serco’s patented hydraulic technology, which consists of independent powered lip control, regenerative hydraulics and push-button controls. With a vertical range of up to 60 inches, the Level-Lift has the ability to load and unload nearly any type of vehicle that pulls into the loading dock, the company says. With lifting capacity of up to 20,000 pounds, the Level-Lift enables dock-to-grade forklift access, and can be interlocked with dock doors, vehicle restraints and other equipment using a Master Control Panel to ensure a safe and reliable operation sequence, the company says.

NewAge Industries released Newflex tubing to provide an alternative to the bulk and weight of multi-layer rubber hoses for suction requirements. Newflex offers all-PVC construction along with flexibility and durability for a dependable product, the company says. Newflex is reinforced with spirals that help the tubing flex without kinking, resist crushing and withstand vacuum applications as high as 28 in./Hg., the company says. The tubing is available in heavy, standard and light duty.

Top case sealer

A-B-C Packaging Machine Corp. introduced an adhesive top case sealer. This compact case sealer features a heavy gauge stainless steel frame for durability, contoured flap folders to ensure square cases and a flexible roller compression section for secure sealing, the company says. Built for drop-in installation, this sealer has standard 15-inch line elevation and independently adjustable footpads for leveling on all floor surfaces. Standard features on the Model 136HM sealer include high visibility, easy-access sliding guards to enclose the sealer while allowing easy access and maintenance-free components for reduced downtime, the company says. The model also has a 30-second changeover that does not require tools to adjust to a full range of case sizes, the company says.

Pilgrim Software Inc. announced the availability of SmartSolve 9, the latest and most enhanced version of its integrated process automation platform. The latest version of SmartSolve contains a new user interface for improved usability, as well as a diverse set of enhancements to help meet users’ operational needs and compliance requirements, the company says. SmartSolve 9 includes enhanced capabilities supporting audits, complaints, document control and training management. These Pilgrim solutions will give users more control in managing their compliance and quality process experiences, the company says.

Conveyor lubricant

Ecolab Inc. launched its DryExx GS, a dry conveyor lubricant formulated for glass packaging on stainless steel or mixed conveyors used in beverage, brewery and food processing industries. The patented high-performance lubricant, when used in conjunction with Ecolab’s innovative control system, reduces water use in conveyor lines by as much as 97 percent and also helps enhance workplace safety, the company says. With its newest conveyor lubricant, Ecolab also is introducing an engineered control system to help optimize line efficiency. The DryExx GS conveyor management solution can reduce bottle tipping, breakage and line stoppage, as well as help reduce influent and effluent treatment costs, the company says.

Cooling system

W. Amsler Equipment Inc. developed a preform cooling system. The system delivers major production improvements for manufacturers of PET containers, the company says. Amsler’s new preform cooling system uses increased air flow in the oven to reduce the surface temperature of the preform. The increased air flow results in minimal temperature differential throughout the preform, thus inducing less stress and creating faster molding cycles, the company says. In addition, the increase in air flow improves production of colored bottles, reducing the chance of burning the colored performs, the company says. The system uses the same heating element – infrared short-wave emitters – but replaces the standard reflectors with a plenum chamber.
