Oxygen barrier coating
Ball Corp.’s 16-ounce PET bottles with KHS Plasmax barrier coating were released as a bottle for Made beverages by Tenaya LLC, Chicago. Tenaya says the beverages are among the first high-acid, shelf-stable beverages aseptically filled in PET bottles in North America. Plasmax is an ultra-thin transparent internal silicon oxide barrier coating that protects the beverage from oxygen ingress and prevents the bottle from absorbing the sterilizing agent used during the aseptic filling process.

Lift trucks
Yale Materials Handling Corp. released a three-wheel and four-wheel model electric rider lift truck. Both trucks can lift 3,000 to 4,000 pounds, have a zero turn radius and dual drive motors that can rotate the drive tires in opposite directions, the company says. The trucks also have an automatic parking brake.

Paccar MX
Peterbilt Motors Co. launched its Paccar MX engine for Class 8 vehicles. The engine, which has a horsepower range from 380 to 485, will be available beginning this summer in Peterbilt Models 587, 388, 386, 384, 367 and 365. Peterbilt built the engine using compacted graphite iron, which is 20 percent lighter and 75 percent stronger than traditional gray iron, in both the cylinder block and head, the company says. Fractured cap technology in the engine’s connecting rods and main bearing caps provides high-shearing strength that gives it a wide range of horsepower, longer torque and power curves for greater efficiency, the company says.

Modernization suite
Dematic Corp. introduced its suite of modernization products and services, which is divided into three categories: material handling systems, facilities and operations. Sorter repair/rebuild kit, replacement rollers, motorized roller retro-fit kit, powered pulley upgrade, conveyor replacement and software controls upgrades are available for material handling systems. Facilities services and products include relamping or lighting upgrades, flash analysis and energy management. For operations, the company offers operations assessments, maintenance audits, preventative maintenance services and resident maintenance programs.

Product stacker
Douglas Machine Inc. launched its Velocity II High-Speed Product Stacker, the next generation in its Velocity line of product stackers. The Velocity II features additional adjustability, allowing the user to run products ranging from ¾ inch to 4 inches tall and can achieve product flow speeds up to 600 products per minute, the company says. The newest generation of Velocity stackers has servo controls for quick and repeatable tool-free changeovers and does not require pre-stacking or priming, Douglas Machine says.

Bottle labeler
For mid-tier bottlers, Krones AG developed the Vinetta, a labeler that will complete between 4,000 and 8,000 containers an hour. The standard version of the labeler can affix glass bottles, plastic bottles, jars and specially shaped containers with body and shoulder labels. It also includes an additional cold-glue station for back, neck-ring or swing-stopper label applications. The company also offers options for wine seals, diagonal strips or medallion application and a pressure-sensitive labeling station, it says.

Natural gas-powered truck
Kenworth Truck Co. expanded its line of environmentally friendly products with its Kenworth T440 natural gas model, which includes the Cummins Westport ISL G engine. The truck is best suited for local and regional haul and vocational applications, the company says, and includes an extended day cab and 38-inch AeroCab FlatTop sleeper options. Natural gas and liquefied natural gas can power the T440, which has an Allison transmission.

Laser etcher
Gravograph Inc. launched its LS100EX, a laser solution for marking metals and plastics. The equipment can house objects up to 24 inches by 12 inches by 5.7 inches and can mark hard or reflecting materials, such as black or stainless steel. It has a maximum marking speed of 8.2 feet per second, the company says, and includes indexing supports to engrave on cylindrical and conical objects.

All-in-one printer management utility
Sato released its all-in-one printer management utility, which will allow users to configure Sato products across their entire infrastructure. The tool requires only that a Windows PC be connected to the network to access local or networked Sato printers. The software will make it possible to access downloads for printer-specific settings and firmware either system-wide or to individual printers .

Laser coder
ID Technology LLC released its iConnet laser by Macsa. The laser features an integrated touch screen, photocell, nose cone protection and mounting bracket and can be connected to a network through an Ethernet port. Through its MarcaLite software, the laser can print logos, graphics and alphanumerics and is designed for small character coding applications in packaged goods and industrial products, the company says.

Olfactory system
Microanalytics, a subsidiary of Mocon Inc., has developed the AromaTrax GCMS-Olfactometry System, which combines technology with the human nose to identify chemical odors, such as those in wood pallets that have been linked to illness and product recalls. With a small piece of the wood, the system can separate chemical compounds and deliver individual odors for identification, the company says.

Air compressor
Ingersoll Rand plc launched its R190-225ne Variable Speed Drive Rotary Screw Air Compressor, the latest model in the company’s Nirvana line. The air compressor has a modular drive with Hybrid Permanent Magnet motor design to increase productivity by matching compressed air output to the customer’s demand, the company says. PET containers
M&H Plastics developed an oxygen-scavenging PET container that limits exposure to oxygen and maintains product quality to extend shelf life, the company says. Oxygen is kept at bay by a blend of PET and an oxygen-scavenging concentrate that create a barrier, the company says. Keeping oxygen outside a container allows the container to keep products fresh for a longer period of time.

Carbonation dispenser
NuCO2, Stuart, Fla., launched its XactBev system, which the company says will combat the beer wasted in kegs that do not have the proper blend of carbon dioxide and nitrogen gas. The system dispenses the optimal blend of gases for ales, lagers and stouts, the company says.

Datalogic Mobile, Eugene, Ore., released Elf, its newest generation of rugged professional PDA. The PDA is used for field service, field sales, delivery, retail and logistics, the company says, and is built for single-handed operation. Equipped with Windows Mobile 6.5, Elf has Green Spot good reach technology and features a laser barcode reader and two-dimensional imager.

Foxx Equipment Co. released its 2010 beverage dispensing equipment catalog, which features full-color product photos and 16 extra pages of products, bringing its total page count to 144. Preset ferrule tool
Brennan Industries Inc. introduced a presetting tool that will preset ferrules on tubing before assembling into a fitting. The tool, which is made of carbon steel and comes in sizes from 5/8 inch and up, is ideal for installations in tight spaces, the company says. The tool must be secured in a vise before removing the protective nut and assembling the fitting nut and ferrules loosely onto the tool. The user then can insert tubing through the nut and ferrules until it sets into the preset tool.

Automation controllers
Rockwell Automation released its L43S and L45S Compact GuardLogix programmable automation controllers that will provide integrated safety, motion, discrete and drive control capabilities in one unit for midrange applications. The Compact GuardLogix controllers will include diagnostics and information capabilities to reduce nuisance shutdowns and prolonged restarts, which previously were available only in larger platforms.

Refrigerators and freezers
Master-Bilt released its redesigned Fusion line of bottom mount solid door refrigerators and freezers, which will be on display at the National Restaurant Association Show in Chicago in May. The line has three models of freezer and three models of refrigerator with capacities of 23, 49 and 72 cubic feet. Made of stainless and galvanized steel, the units have curved corners to reduce injuries in slipping accidents, it says. It also features an electronic control that allows the user to monitor and adjust temperatures and digitally displays the internal temperature.

Video seam monitor
Wilkens-Anderson released its VSM II Video Seam Monitor, a high-resolution camera and monitor to inspect can double seam cross sections. The camera includes a solid state light source that produces a bright image of the can seam for evaluation and measurement, a toggle switch to select crosshairs on either the X or Y axis and adjustable illumination and built-in calibration procedure, the company says.

Floor level palletizer
Columbia Machine Inc. developed a new palletizer, the FL2000 Floor Level Palletizer. The machine features interlocked doors with clear plastic or optional mesh panels and a variable frequency drive-controlled electric row pusher drive. Category three rated electrical components now come standard on the machine, the company says. Multiple layout possibilities, such as front, rear or side infeeds, can be achieved with the machine.
