Counterbalanced lift truck
The Raymond Corp. has introduced a new three-wheel, sit-down counterbalanced truck that the company says will increase productivity and enhance energy efficiency. The new model 4450 can handle up to 4,000 pounds and has a short head length to reduce turn radius and to make it easier to stack pallets or transport products in small spaces. The truck also features a four-cylinder mast that increases visibility for the driver.

Shrinkwrap machine
Douglas Machine Inc. has added an auto-adjust feature to its Douglas Contour shrinkwrap machines. The feature eliminates most hand adjustments for changeovers, the company says, and replaces them with electronic motion controls. An error message will appear on the machine to alert the operator to parts that have not been removed, preventing costly damage, the company says. Changeover time will be reduced to less than 15 minutes, it says.

Forklift trucks
Mitsubishi Forklift Trucks introduced a new line of mid-size internal combustion pneumatic tire forklift trucks designed in five capacities ranging from 8,000 pounds to 12,000 pounds. The new line of forklift trucks include handling features that allow them to be used outdoors and on rough surfaces. An Engine Protection System keeps the truck from overheating by reducing rotations per minute when coolant becomes too hot. The company says the operator compartment is spacious and comfortable during long shifts.

Cellar concept
Krones AG has introduced the Teinecker TwinPro, a cellar concept based on double-seat valves, grouped together in filling and draining racks. Tank loops link multiple tanks to the filling and draining valve racks. The company says that connecting the filling and draining racks via pipe bypasses will optimize production and cleaning.

Data acquisition software
CMC-Kuhnke released a 2010 update to its Visionary QC program, which is data acquisition software designed specifically for the canning industry. The Visionary QC software will connect to almost any gauge and lead operators through quality inspections and provide reports for process control. The updated software will include customizable reports, e-mailed reports, database assurance and compatibility and support for multiple languages.

Order-fulfillment system
Intelligrated relaunched the Real Time Solutions order-fulfillment system, which includes pick-to-light, pick-to-voice, pick-to-cart and order fulfillment software. The systems are suitable for warehousing, fulfillment and DC environments and are designed for customer-driven workflows, the company says. The company says the system is flexible and can be tailored to fit any operation. Real Time Solutions order fulfillment system offers multiple picking methods and picking styles.

Stainless steel air cleaner
Peterbilt Motor Co. has released a stainless steel, cowl-mounted air cleaner and cap that the company says will improve performance and increase durability and serviceability. The filter uses nanotechnology to trap submicron contaminants and has a seal designed to reduce contamination and make inspections and servicing easier. The air cleaner can be used on Peterbilt Models 389, 388 and 367 in the 13- and 15-inch diameters for single or dual side installations.

DR motor series
Sew-Eurodrive GmbH & Co KG released a motor modular system that the company says offers numerous drive combinations. The DR motor series is optimized for food and beverage plant operations, the company says. For example, it includes coating options and seals to keep chemicals from damaging the motor and has brake control modules that can operate in freezers. The motor also includes customizable options for brakes, encoders and mountings.

Film extrusion resin
Topas Advanced Polymers Inc. introduced a film extrusion grade of cyclic olefin copolymer that lowers the commercial glass transition temperature down to 33 degrees Celsius. The Topas 9903D-10 resin is used in polyolefin formulas for several packaging film applications, such as shrink film, shrink sleeves and shrink labels for bottles. The resin also has improved stiffness and shrinkage without additional force that can distort or crush a package being wrapped.

Steamer shrink tunnel
Karlville Development introduced the dual-chamber Steamer shrink tunnel with an integrated, low-volume steam boiler. The machine’s design lets the user adjust internal pipes to allow the steam to shrink areas on the container with the highest shrink requirements. It is designed to maximize temperature with minimal power, the company says. The steamer can process up to 150 containers per minute, depending on the container’s shape, size and sleeve material, the company says.

Mass flowmeter
Krohne Inc. has released its Optimass 1000 Coriolis mass flowmeter. The company says the flowmeter is reliable between -40 degrees and 130 degrees Celsius. The flowmeter is configured with a close-coupled twin tube with an optimized flow splitter, which can handle flow rates during pressure fluctuations. It also features hygienic process connectors for the food and beverage industries, the company says.

Labelers
Label-Aire has introduced three new labelers: the 3111-NV Air-Blow Labeler, the 3114-NV Tamp-Blow Labeler and the 3115-NV Wipe-On Labeler. All three labelers are designed to operate at high speeds and include velocity compensation to more accurately place labels, the company says. The labelers’ displays are digital and can be configured to display in one of five languages and standard or metric units.

Screen printers
Kammann USA introduced its K15-CNC, a rotary indexing screen printer with up to eight printing heads, to decorate cylindrical, conical, oval, flat plastic and glass containers. The machine features touch panels to input data about the container and automatic adjustment of screen stroke, article rotation and squeegee movement. Containers travel through all printing stations in the machine, enabling the machine to decorate with multicolor patterns without a register mark or lug.

Checkweigher
Mettler-Toledo Hi-Speed has launched its new XC3 CombiChecker, a combination three-conveyor high-speed checkweigher and Safeline metal detector. The system can inspect products and packages in dry, dusty and wipe-down environments and segregate packages weighing up to 3,500 grams at a rate of 125 packs per minute. The company also included a color touch-screen display to access its basic functions. It stores package set-ups to make production changeovers faster. The Safeline metal detector can detect all types of metal, including stainless steel, the company says.

X-Ray and metal detector system
Eriez has released a combination E-Z Tec Dual-Beam Multi-Zone X-Ray and Metal Detector System that the company says will reject almost any foreign object for packaged or bulk-flow applications. The X-Ray machine will detect ferrous, nonferrous, stainless steel and non-metallics, while the metal detector will detect aluminum. The machine will pinpoint single products with a foreign object instead of rejecting an entire row of products, the company says.

Maintenance catalogue
Grainger released its 2010 catalogue of facilities maintenance supplies, and it includes more than 300,000 maintenance, repair and operating products. The company added 85,000 new items to the catalogue because of customer feedback, making this year’s catalogue the largest yet, it says. The catalogue, which is printed on Forest Stewardship Council paper, includes technical information about products as well. The company also offers nearly 500,000 products online.

Power Transmission Solutions released its new, consolidated gearing catalogue. Packaging heater
Heat Genie developed a unit that can be used in food and beverage packaging to heat the package’s contents. The heater, which does not use chemicals, can heat a large volume of foods and beverages despite being relatively small, the company says. The unit is in its third prototype and is the first to be commercially viable, the company says. Each unit costs about $0.10 to manufacture, it says.

Label printer
Primera Technology began shipping its LX900 color label printer, which will print full-color, high-resolution beverage labels. The printer produces 4.5 inches of labels per second and features separate ink cartridges for cyan, magenta, yellow and black to keep replacement costs low, the company says. The company is selling the printer, which is compatible with both Windows and Macintosh operating systems, for a suggested retail price of $2,995.
