Food, beverage companies continue to use more recycled content

As we commemorate this year’s Earth Day and its theme, “Restore Our Earth,” the International Bottled Water Association (IBWA) is reminding consumers that if we each do our part and recycle, together we can improve the quality of our environment and decrease our use of virgin materials in all recyclable product packaging, including bottled water.

As the country observes Earth Day, the International Bottled Water Association (IBWA), Alexandria, Va., is encouraging the public to take action to reduce waste and litter by stepping up their commitment to always recycle all recyclable consumer packaging.
Given the volume growth of packaged water, beverage manufacturers have taken notice of how consumers are reaching for hydration beverages over sweeter options, prompting them to rethink their own portfolios. This shifting sentiment caught the attention of Cott Corporation, thereby paving the way for the beverage manufacturer to create a new identity for itself.

Drinking water instead of one 8-ounce sugar-sweetened beverage can save a person about 100 calories, which might help prevent chronic diseases such as diabetes, says the International Bottled Water Association (IBWA), Alexandria, Va. The association is reminding the public of water’s important role in helping people live healthier lifestyles and has partnered with other organizations and groups around the world in recognizing World Diabetes Day, Nov. 14.
To help mark the 46th anniversary of Earth Day, hundreds of groups across North America have registered their events on earthday.org. Although numerous associations are doing their part to help fuel the environmental movement, consumers still are looking for guidance when it comes to one of the most common environmental practices: recycling.
With numerous people and topics vying for my attention, my monthly magazine subscriptions are piling up. However, I made sure to set aside time when my TIME subscription arrived that featured Josh Sanburn’s cover feature about the lead contamination of Flint, Mich.’s water supply.
