After experimenting with countless iterations and test batches in the nano-brewery at the Sam Adams Boston Brewery, the brewers at Boston-based The Boston Beer Co. announced the release of the first three brews from the Samuel Adams Nitro Project: Nitro White Ale, Nitro IPA and Nitro Coffee Stout.
As part of the Nielsen CGA joint venture, New York based-Nielsen and CGA Strategy, U.K., announced that Brand Index, a statistically robust, fully projected on-premise measurement for beverage alcohol clients, will be rolling out in two phases this year.

A subsidiary of Heineken International BV, White Plains-N.Y.-based Heineken USA’s Heineken Premium Lager is pairing up with UEFA Champions League (UCL) and Major League Soccer (MLS) beginning March 1 for Heineken’s fully integrated, 360-degree retail and on-premise Soccer is Here program. The program encourages legal-drinking-age fans to choose Heineken for all of their soccer viewing activities, the company says. National TV, digital partnerships, social support, account activation and a consumer sweepstakes rewarding shoppers for every minute of every UCL and MLS match, will drive consumer engagement and increase consideration and sales of Heineken throughout the program, it adds.
Shock Top brand to appear in Super Bowl ads for first time

Anheuser-Busch (A-B), the St. Louis-based subsidiary of Anheuser-Busch InBev, announced that for the 28th consecutive year it will serve as the exclusive category advertiser for the Super Bowl. On Feb. 7, the brewer will use the prominent advertising stage to spotlight Super Bowl veterans Budweiser and Bud Light, along with first-time Super Bowl advertiser Shock Top and returning Super Bowl advertiser Michelob Ultra, it says.
Thirty-eight percent of consumers prefer aluminum cans when tailgating versus 26 percent who prefer plastic bottles. Thirty-six percent of consumers prefer cans at barbecues or picnics, compared with 30 percent who prefer plastic bottles.
Pabst subsidiary to brew historic beers at CBA’s Washington brewery

Portland, Ore.-based Craft Brew Alliance Inc. (CBA) and Pabst Brewing Co. (PBC), Los Angeles, announced that the two companies have entered into a brewing agreement that supports strategic growth objectives for both companies. PBC’s subsidiary Rainier Brewing Co. will begin brewing Rainier Pale Mountain Ale among other Rainier brands at CBA’s brewery in Woodinville, Wash. this spring, the companies say. As part of the agreement, PBC has been granted an option to purchase the Woodinville facility at any time during the next three years, they add.
Miami-based Southern Wine & Spirits of America Inc. and Glazer's Inc., Dallas, announced the signing of a definitive agreement that will create Southern Glazer's Wine and Spirits LLC. The new company will distribute more than 150 million cases of wine and spirits annually, cover nearly 90 percent of the legal drinking-age population in the United States, employ more than 20,000 team members and have operations in 41 states plus the District of Columbia, the Caribbean and Canada, the companies say. Headquartered in Miami, the new company also will maintain ongoing operations, systems, executives and team members in Dallas, it adds.
