Other coffee segments losing share from single-cup coffee

Campbell’s V8 Vegetable and Fruit Juices claims 59 percent of votes

In line with consumers’ interest with health and wellness products as well as vegetable flavors, Camden, N.J.-based Campbell Soup Co. introduced in January its new line of V8 Vegetable and Fruit Juice beverages. This month, Beverage Industry readers have shown that they agree that this new product release was on point by voting the product line Beverage Industry’s Readers’ Choice New Product of the Month for March.
High commodity pricing can be a major issue for the beverage industry. However, when premium-priced products are in demand, this challenge becomes less troublesome.
The gourmet coffee market has perked up this year, according to the National Coffee Association of USA Inc. (NCA). Approximately 34 percent of American adults drink gourmet coffee beverages daily, up 3 percentage points from 2013, according to the New York-based association’s “National Coffee Drinking Trends” market research study, which was released in March. Conversely, non-gourmet coffee drinking dropped 4 percentage points to 35 percent, it reports.
As the weather warms up, it looks as though people are finding favor with iced varieties to give themselves a little pick me up. In Beverage Industry’s May New Products poll, readers voted Verve MoJoe as the top release posted on www.bevindustry.com during the month.
New coffees available in select Walmart stores Feb. 10

Inspired by the signature coffees available at its doughnut shops, Winston-Salem, N.C.-based Krispy Kreme Doughnut Corp. is bringing its iced coffees to retail store shelves in ready-to-drink (RTD) bottles. Starting Feb. 10, RTD varieties of Krispy Kreme Original Glazed Iced Coffee and Krispy Kreme Mocha Iced Coffee will be available at more than 900 Walmart locations throughout the United States.
