John Anthony Wine & Spirits introduced Johnny Tejas
Ranch water line available in four flavor varieties
John Anthony Wine & Spirits introduced Johnny Tejas, a new line of real-tequila sodas crafted with premium blanco tequila and natural fruit flavors. The lineup includes Mandarin Orange, Ruby Grapefruit, Watermelon and Lime — each with just 100 calories, zero carbs and 5% ABV.
Johnny Tejas, real-tequila soda was started as a passion project by John Anthony Truchard, founder and CEO at John Anthony Wine & Spirits. While hard seltzer RTDs have been gaining in popularity for their lower alcohol and calories, their flavor and quality were lacking, overly sweet, or made using lower-grade malt liquor, the company opines. Truchard wanted to do better with a simple, well-made ranch water with real blanco tequila imported from NOM1438 in Jalisco, Mexico.
“Johnny Tejas is exactly the real-Tequila soda I set out to make — we perfected it over several years to achieve the clean, authentic taste we wanted. At just 100 calories, zero carbs, gluten free, and 5% alcohol, it has a full shot of real-blanco tequila that gives it the right bite with just a hint of light fruit flavor,” Truchard said in a statement. “Importantly, Johnny Tejas is made with a NOM-designated tequila from one of the most awarded agave growers in Jalisco, Mexico, which really sets a high bar for its quality and authenticity.”
A classic Texas cocktail, ranch water is traditionally made with blanco tequila, lime juice and sparkling water. Originating in West Texas, it has become a go-to drink for those seeking a crisp, effortless alternative to overly-sweetened mixed drinks, or fermented malt liquor hard seltzers. Johnny Tejas Ranch Water builds on this tradition by blending premium blanco tequila, natural fruit flavors, fresh sparkling soda water — and nothing else.
Crafted with tequila from a NOM-designated distillery, Johnny Tejas delivers a genuine, premium taste, elevating the next generation of ready-to-drink cocktails, the company says. A NOM designation signifies that the distillery has been officially certified and registered by the Consejo Regulador del Tequila (CRT) in Mexico, ensuring the tequila meets strict quality and authenticity standards.
The name “Johnny Tejas” is inspired by both its creator (John was born in San Antonio, Texas) and the delicious mash-up of simple ingredients and flavors that celebrate its Mexican roots and the American spirit, the company says.
To celebrate the launch, Johnny Tejas Ranch Water will make a splash at events in Texas, Southern California, and Colorado, including the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo (March 4-23); Cal Poly’s Poly Royal Rodeo (San Luis Obispo April 9-13); and The Aspen Food & Wine Classic (June 20-22), where the brand was first previewed in 2024.
Johnny Tejas is available at select retailers nationwide, sold in single-fruit flavor four-packs of 330-ml cans, and variety four-packs of 330-ml cans.
